Whether you have bought a candle from us, or another retailer – it is important to properly care for it. To be safe and get the most out of your candle, make sure you are following all the candle care guidelines below. Candle Care Guide
Candles can create a cozy, relaxing atmosphere, but proper care is essential to get the most out of them. Follow these simple tips to ensure your candles burn beautifully and safely:
1. Trim the Wick
Always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each use. A properly trimmed wick ensures a clean, even burn and prevents excessive soot.
2. Let the Wax Pool
On the first burn, allow the wax to melt across the entire surface of the candle. This prevents “tunneling” and helps your candle last longer. How long this takes will depend on the type of wax and oils are being used.
It is important to note that coconut wax will not typically burn across the entire surface, but should get about 3/4 of the way. After the second or 3rd burn the outer area should catch up!
3. Burn Time
Avoid burning your candle for more than 3-4 hours at a time. Overly long burns can cause the wick to mushroom, leading to uneven burning and soot.
4. Keep It Clean
Ensure the wax pool is free of debris, such as wick trimmings or matches. This keeps the candle burning cleanly and prevents flare-ups. If you purchased a botanical candle, be sure the accents are far enough away from the flame so they do not catch fire.
5. Burn in a Safe Location
Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials, drafts, pets, and children.
6. Extinguish Safely
Use a snuffer or gently blow out the flame. Avoid blowing too hard to prevent splattering hot wax.
7. Store Properly
Store your candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to maintain their quality.
8. Use a Lid or Cover
If your candle comes with a lid, use it to keep dust and debris out when not in use. This keeps the candle looking fresh and clean.
By following these tips, you can enjoy the full life and beauty of your candles while keeping your space safe and inviting.
